In 2014, to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (the IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) combined to create an online exhibition highlighting the role of engineers during the First World War using archive material found in the collections of the three Institutions.

In 2019, the three Institutions combined to create an online exhibition highlighting the role of some engineers and engineering firms during the Second World War.

Both exhibitions use the lens of the Institutions' archive collections to look at the contributions of some engineers and engineering firms to the war effort during both the First and Second World Wars.
